Kathmandu, a city of temples and also the capital city of the nation is the dream city of every Nepali people from different regions. It is also the preferred destination for various visitors from different countries around the world.
There is a misconception that Kathmandu is a expensive city to visit mainly because it is the capital city of Nepal. To clear this concept for locals as well as tourists, I’m going to list some cheap places in Kathmandu to visit. Following are the some places which can easily come under your budget.
1. Swayambhunath
One of the preferred place to visit for most tourists as well as locals is Swayambhunath. Swayambhunath is listed as one of the UNESO World Heritage Sites. It is a holy place for Buddhists and a beautiful place for sightseeing.
It costs you NPR 50 to enter if you are from SAARC countries and NPR 200 else. Entry in Swayambhunath is free for Nepalese citizens.
2. Garden of Dreams
The Garden of dreams is a peaceful get away from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. It is located south of Thamel, along Tridevi marg. This garden is made in European style, quite surprising to see European style garden in such busy place.
It will cost you NPR 100 if you are a Nepalese citizen and NPR 200 if you are foreigner.
3. Pashupatinath
Pashupati, holiest place among Hindus is not only famous in Nepal but also famous all over the world. Worshippers from India visit Nepal during Shrawan month and Mahashivaratri.
To enter in Pashupatinath, it will cost NPR 1000 for foreigners while it is free for Nepalese.
4. Boudhanath
Boudhanath is a holy place for Buddhists. This massive mandala stupa is also visible from atop from sky when you arrive or leave from Kathmandu. The area or locality around Boudha is famous for Tibetian foods such as Laphing.
To enter in Boudhanath, foreigners from SAARC countries need to pay NPR 100 while foreigners from other countries have to pay NPR 400. Entry in Boudhanath is free for Nepalese.

5. Patan Durbar Square
Patan Durbar Square holds a strong importance in history and culture of Nepal. Built during the Malla regime, this Durbar Square is a major attraction among tourists. Patan is also famous for Krishna Mandir in Mangal Bazaar.
For SAARC country citizens, it will cost NPR 250. For other tourists, it will cost NPR 1000 and the Nepalese citizens will have to pay NPR 100 to enter the Patan Durbar Square and Patan Museum.
6. Bhaktapur Durbar Square
Bhaktapur is quite famous among the locals of Kathmandu valley for its youghurt, called Juju Dhau. Like Patan, Bhaktapur alsi holds strong importance in Nepal’s histiory and culture. Nyatapole Temple, 55-windowed temple, Bhaktapur is one of the finest collection for monuments, sculpture, art and tradition.
To enter the Bhaktapur Durbar Sqaure, you will have to pay NPR 1500 and NPR 500 if you are from SAARC countries or China.
7. Kathmandu Durbar Square
The Kathmandu Durbar Square is also famous as Basantapur Durbar among locals. It is also listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites list like Bhaktapur and Patan Durbar Square.
To enter here, you will have to pay NPR 1000 for tourists and for tourists from SAARC countries, the cost is NPR 150.
